PURPOSE: The Interim Church School Coordinator coordinates and facilitates the smooth running of the Church School program, which includes 3-4yr.olds to Grade 8, First Youth (a monthly Sunday morning gathering for high school youth) and the volunteer staff in the Nursery and its needs; which seeks to ensure that children and youth who attend come to know the Biblical faith in a safe, friendly, welcoming environment and where all may experience the love of God and be spiritually nurtured. An understanding of, and respect for, the faith and inclusive values of our church community are of critical importance, as is team work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SINCERE FAITH AND CHRIST-CENTERED LIFE: The Interim Church School Coordinator shall be a Christian, who has a desire to exercise faith and service through this ministry position.
PROFESSIONAL, TECHNICAL, AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILL PLUS A WILLINGNESS TO LEARN: The position requires a self-starter with strong leadership skills; Ability to communicate well and work respectfully with other members of the staff and congregation; Strong verbal, written, interpersonal skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize work, and to meet deadlines is a requirement. Must be “computer comfortable" and able to communicate via email, etc.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AND DEVELOPMENT: The Interim Church School Coordinator needs an ability to relate well with people (children, youth and adults); Able to make decisions and delegate responsibilities to others; Able to recruit others who might assist as volunteers in the program. Required to interact and serve with the church minister and staff, and be under the direction of the personnel committee and minister.
PERSONAL ATTITUDES: Friendliness; a serving, glad, and humble attitude; an ability to graciously express leadership; openness to new ideas; self-starter; an encourager; a good sense of humour.
DEPENDABILITY: Loyalty and reliability, setting and meeting deadlines and goals; organized; punctual.
DISCRETION AND CONFIDENTIALITY: Trustworthiness.
ADMINISTRATION: Coordination with the minister and church staff and office; participation in meetings with the minister, church school teachers, nursery helpers, and Christian Development Committee (when requested). Maintain accurate Church School records. Identify, train, and motivate volunteers for assistance in this program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Be present and prepared each Sunday morning before and after Church School to greet, support and encourage children, parents and teachers.
2) Responsible to monitor Church School classes and teachers and see that all classes are covered.
3) Work with the church school teachers in choosing and ordering yearly curriculum. Organize, maintain, and distribute Church School curriculum and provide supplies to equip teachers well.
4) Collect offerings from open session and leave in Church office for counting and banking.
5) Maintain attendance records for all grades (and grade 12 for Confirmation purposes)
6) Design, Convene and lead monthly Church School teachers workshops. Know the curriculum & teach the upcoming lessons, biblical knowledge required and teaching methodology.
-come up with crafts and activity suggestions for each lesson.
-provide supplies for lessons & general supplies (ie; attendance charts, glue scissors; supplies for special events.
-Every Sunday Open Sessions downstairs. Musical skills needed; if not an instrument, experience & comfort leading singing, teaching songs, taking up the offering and praying with the teachers, children and youth…an important gathering time for all.
-plan special ‘theme’ Sundays for activities/lessons– with all in assembly hall working together.
OTHER TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1) The Interim Church School Coordinator position is an interim part-
time position (10 hours/week). (A temporary 4 month renewable contract for up to a year)
2) The hourly wage will be determined by the Personnel Committee
3) Performance reviews will be held in compliance with the Personnel Committee in December, 2016.
4) A current police vulnerable sector background check is required.
5) The Church School Coordinator is directly accountable to the Minister and the Personnel Committee.
